Reading Training – 11th April 2016

2016-04-12T21:13:30+00:00 April 12th, 2016|Dagger, Reading, Sword & Buckler|

Reading seem to be getting settled into their new venue with three streams of training taking place on Monday night.

The beginners continued with their foundations of swordplay, working on a little hand and foot co-ordination.  Meanwhile the studente were split between Stewart teaching sidesword and dagger, and Matt’s lesson on sidesword and buckler.

Some really good progress made by all groups with some time at the end for people to engage in a little freeplay.

It’s less than a week to go before the start of the International Rapier Seminar 2016.  The School of the Sword is playing host this year to the sold-out event and has lined up a number of world-class instructors and seminars.

There’s also a tournament and we’ve published the rules and safety requirements for attendees.  (Attendees should have also received this via email earlier this week).

It looks to be a fantastic weekend of historical fencing.  Who will win be crowned the Technical Champion for 2016 and take home the trophy?

Caly will now be able to progress to taking part in many of our other training streams as well as full sparring.  Congratulations Caly!

  • Matt will be doing an Introduction to Bolognese Sword & Buckler.
  • Jay will be going Bolognese Sidesword & Cloak
  • Pim will be looking at Cheats of measure in rapier and dagger.

It looks like it will be an excellent weekend and the school is looking to have a big contingent of members there.

2nd April 2016 – Fight Like A Girl Book Launch

2016-04-05T17:04:09+00:00 April 5th, 2016|Events|

As well as being an accomplished instructor, Fran is also a published writer.  To celebrate the launch of a new anthology she contributed a story to, Fran and Lizzie went down to Bristol for the day to give a sword fighting demonstration at the book launch.

There was a big crowd and it seemed the demonstration went down well with people who had turned up.  Fran then got to sign books for people.

The anthology, Fight Like A Girl, is now available from good bookshops.  Thanks to Chris for the photos.
