Lots of people in class at Godalming tonight including our latest beginners group! Everyone got stuck in right away and was very enthusiastic about learning swords. We are looking forward to working with all of you over the coming weeks.
School of the Sword instructor, Emilia, was in Copenhagen this weekend for the International Rapier Seminar.
Bringing together some of the world’s best instructors and practitioners of rapier, Emilia did a workshop entitled “Bringing A Rapier To A Bar Fight”, where she taught attendees about grappling techniques in rapier systems and how to use the rapier in confined spaces.
Fightcamp is a long running UK event organised by our friends over at Schola Gladiatoria. It’s a fun weekend of camping, classes and camaraderie.
This year, two School of the Sword instructors were invited to teach. Adrian ran a rapier workshop on Alfieri and his classification of various fighters (as well as tactics on how to defeat all of them), while Fran held her workshop right after, focusing on how to look good with rapier. Both workshops were well attended, with plenty of eager students.
Tonight at our Godalming chapter, the longsword group joined the tournament prep group for some tournament style judged bouts. Everyone had a turn at fighting and judging and some fine fencing ensued.

Our new Oxford beginners continued training alongside advanced students this week. Everybody did brilliantly and we all look forward to the next week’s lesson.

Another busy session at Godalming tonight. The longsword group worked on low guards, while the tournament prep group discussed the use of a ‘corner’ person and held a mini pool. Each fighter fought against the others in the pool and there were some excellent bouts. Everyone won at least one bout and everyone scored points in every bout.
