Our Oxford students were joined today by members of Milton Keynes’ Clashing Steel for their regular sparring session. Fighting against new opponents not only gives you an opportunity to practise your skills, but to see how they stack up against an unknown opponent.
Our Godalming chapter played host to a Freeplay Day where fighters from clubs far and wide descended on Godalming to engage in a day of fun sparring. These events provide the perfect opportunity to experience different sparring partners, some of them learning different systems.
Lots of hard work in tonight’s class in Godalming: beginners, Sword and buckler, and Sword and cape class.
The School of the Sword was in the Netherlands this weekend, as Oxford Head Instructor, Emilia Skiurmuntt headed to the Winterkamp event in Tilburg Netherlands, to teach an introduction to rapier. It was an amazing, friendly event with a good range of workshops and talks. We hope everyone who attended Emilia’s workshop enjoyed it.

Today saw our Oxford students’ regular sparring session, whereby students gather to practise new skills they have acquired and fine tune those they already know. There was a good mix of weapon.
Two of The School of the Sword’s senior instructors are heading to Wales in March to teach at The Gathering of Wolves
The Gathering of Wolves 2023 is the only event of its kind in Wales – a two-day HEMA event hosted in Cardiff, consisting of various workshops with instructors from across the UK as well as plenty of opportunities for friendly free sparring.
Emilia will be doing a workshop on Tomahawk and Bowie Knife whilst Fran’s workshop is entitled “The Right Place at the Right Time”
