Godalming Training – 14th October 2015
A very enjoyable evening in Godalming with the rapier and dagger group working on measure and offline movement, and the sword and buckler group doing some excellent flow drills.

With instructor Fran away competing in Turin and Matt away with work there was no lesson in Reading this past Monday. However, this didn’t stop our senior students from wasting that time, a number of them getting together privately to get in some practise across a range of disciplines.
It’s great to see that despite all the recent upheaval with Reading group, students are still training. Sorry to those candidati who wanted to come along but couldn’t due to the lack of instructor supervision.
Instructors Pim & Fran are in Turin this weekend taking part in TaurHEMAchia 2015 where they are not only teach some classes but also taking part in some of the competitions being run.
We’ve received word that they’re coming back with a bunch of medals! Fran came 4th in women’s sword & buckler, and Pim brings back bronze in sidesword and silver in rapier!
Congratulations All!
Reading students should already be aware, but please note that there is NO training this week (Monday 12th October). This is due to a combination of Fran teaching and competing in Turin and Matt also being unavailable. We’ll all be back next week (19th October – venue TBA)
Thanks to everyone who has helped with the search for a new permanent venue. Trying to find somewhere big enough for all of us is proving a bit of a challenge but with the amount of effort being put in, it shouldn’t be too long before we can find a permanent home.
Another busy and fun night tonight as our beginners group worked on learning Manciolino’s assalti whilst the seniors got in a bit of sparring practise with rapier and dagger
Despite nearly everyone getting lost in Reading’s road network and some very cramped conditions in our temporary venue, we managed to get some training in. The Beginners group worked with sidesword whilst the Seniors did some work purely with daggers.
The search for a permanent venue continues…
Members of School of the Sword found time to pay another visit to the WFMA this past weekend where instructors Pim and Matt found time to do a little rapier practise.
After issues with double booking of our current venue, Reading group is moving!!
We’ll be just around the corner at Katesgrove community centre. (Waterloo Meadows/Elgar Rd, Reading RG2 0BN) Still on Monday, still from 8-10pm.
The venue’s smaller than our current one so it may not be our permanent home, so students are advised to keep an eye open for announcements!
School of the Sword is to play host to the International Rapier Seminar in 2016.
Taking place in Godalming, Surrey on the 16th and 17th April 2016, the event will play host to a number of world-class instructors.

Lots of flow drills tonight in the sword and buckler beginners’ group, along with learning terminology for cuts and guards.
The rapier and dagger senior group made good progress with counterposture.
