Oxford BBQ & Cutting Party – 29th July 2023

Our Oxford students had their own BBQ / Cutting party this weekend with longswords being taken to milk bottles.  A lot of fun was had by all.  Thanks to Kristian for being a BBQ master and Mick and Sarah for hosting.

Oxford Training – 27th July 2023

Tonight at our Oxford Chapter,  students got to learn about fighting with sword & cape and sword & lantern – Rapiers in the Dark!

It was a fun and interesting lesson to teach and the students also seemed happy.

Oxford Students Compete At Midsummer Fight’s Dream

Our Oxford students were in fighting force today, e fighting at the Midsummer Fight’s Dream competition in Oxford (organised by our friends from Oxford Sword and Staff Club).

Everybody did brilliantly with four students attending and all of them getting out to eliminations – and even one bronze match. We’re all extremely proud of them.

Oxford Sparring – 16th July 2023

Our Oxford students met up again today for their regular weekend sparring.  These sessions give students the chance to get in extra practice, as well as work to incorporate new techniques they’ve learned in class.

Oxford Sparring – 2nd July 2023

Sunday saw our Oxford students gather for a bit out outdoor freeplay.  These sessions are always helpful.  There’s only so much time during a lesson to learn a new technique and often the best way to practise it is to incorporate it into sparring.

Our Oxford students met up again today for their regular Sunday sparring session.  These sessions give students the chance to play with a range of weapons including those they might not currently be training, as well as practise techniques learned in class under sparring conditions.

Our Oxford students held their regular outdoor sparring event again today, where students gathered to practise skills they have learnt in class, get in some much needed practise, and have some fun along the way.

School of the Sword Teaches At International Rapier Seminar in Poland

Oxford Senior Instructor, Emilia Skirmuntt headed to Poland this weekend to teach at the International Rapier Seminar, where fencers travelled from all over the world to learn from renonwned instructors.  Emilia sparred with new and old friends from around the world and taught a (very experimental) workshop entitled  ‘Rapiers in the Dark’ during which participants learned how to fence with cape and sword, and cape and lantern.  She also helped as a referee during the single rapier tournament.

Our Oxford student’s braved the heat today to get in some much appreciated sparring practise.

Sparring sessions give students the chance to practise techniques they have learnt in class and work on incorporating them into their personal arsenal of moves, tricks and tactics.

Our Oxford students took advantage of the Bank Holiday today to meet up for some outdoors sparring.

Sparring gives them a chance to exchange with students they might not have sparred with before, practise weapons that might not currently be in the training curriculum, as well as get some much needed time to incorporate new techniques and tactics into their swordplay.
