Due to the current extreme heat the country is experiencing, this week’s training at Reading is cancelled. It’s difficult not to dehydrate in protective gear at the best of times and with the forecast temperatures due to reach around 40 degrees, conditions in the hall will be far from comfortable. Training will resume as normal next week.
In Godalming tonight we had two classes: a continuation of longsword basics, as well as a study group looking at the various sources.
School of the Sword lead instructor, Fran Lacuata, was in Dorset this weekend teaching an introduction to Historical European Martial Arts course at the Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne.
The course focused on teaching renaissance swordplay where participants could learn the basics of greatsword, sidesword, dagger, buckler and more!

Tonight at our Reading Chapter we saw the start of a new introductory course for beginners, together with dagger fighting and some serious studying of Capoferro for our more experienced students
A busy night at our Godalming Chapter tonight with three different streams of learning. John & Lynette took students through tournament prep while Apollon and Jedd continued their work on Longsword, and April and Alex ran a study session
Students at our Reading chapter had a choice between single dagger and rapier at training tonight.
Tonight at Reading, students got to enjoy a mix of streams. Simon continued his work looking at the parrying gauntlet, whilst Chris gave students an introduction to Capoferro
It was a big night in Godalming tonight as Phil Hodder took his Laureando assessment. The rank is given to a student who has shown expertise with a number of weapon combinations and Phil’s assessment this evening required him to have a number of fights to showcase his range of skill.
Congratulations Phil on the hard work it has taken to get him to this stage.
