Wednesday night saw another of our regular training sessions in Godalming with two streams of training on offer to our students.
Adrian worked with the Bolognese group on chaining attacks together whilst Matt worked with the rapier group on proceeding with resolution.
It was the start of a couple of new training blocks in Reading on Monday night.
Stewart started his Bolognese block with a look at second intentions. Pim, meanwhile, took the single rapier group through a feedback session, while Lizzie and Josh worked with the beginners on the foundations of swordplay.
Students from both Godalming and Reading gathered in Hawley this weekend for our regular Sunday sparring event.
These free sessions for students allow them to get in some valuable sparring time, practising the techniques they’ve learnt in our training sessions. It also allows them to spar with people they don’t normally train with as well as try out some fun weapon combinations that are not part of our curriculum.
It was another fun night on Wednesday as students turned up at Godalming to participate in one of two streams of learning available.
Adrian finished his block on tournaments with the final competition and the announcement of the winners of the internal “Haribo” League. Matt, meanwhile, worked with the rapier group.

Josh & Lizzie worked with the beginners on their foundations of swordplay, Simon continued his block on the use of the dagger, and Matt ran a single rapier tournament in preparation for Fightcamp.
The School of the Sword had a large presence at this weekend’s Astolat tournament with not only a bunch of medal wins but a number of students making it through to the latter stages of the various competitions, a number for the first time. There was great camaraderie throughout the whole weekend, with a number of students just turning up to support those competing or to help with judging.

The School of the Sword was proud to host Luke Ireland of The Exiles for a one day seminar on the Iberian montante on Saturday.
The aim was to provide an introduction to Dom Diogo Gomes de Figueiredo’s Memorial Da Prattica do Montante. Over the course of the day, students worked on many of the simple rules included in Figueiredo’s treatise, as well as expanding upon their use beyond the confines of the rules.
It was a great day and everyone really enjoyed having Luke instruct us.
