2016-04-08T16:57:32+00:00April 9th, 2016|Events, Godalming, Rapier|

It’s less than a week to go before the start of the International Rapier Seminar 2016.  The School of the Sword is playing host this year to the sold-out event and has lined up a number of world-class instructors and seminars.

There’s also a tournament and we’ve published the rules and safety requirements for attendees.  (Attendees should have also received this via email earlier this week).

It looks to be a fantastic weekend of historical fencing.  Who will win be crowned the Technical Champion for 2016 and take home the trophy?

In order to pass the safety test students must demonstrate control, efficacy and knowledge of the cuts and guards of bolognese swordplay.

Caly will now be able to progress to taking part in many of our other training streams as well as full sparring.  Congratulations Caly!

The School of the Sword’s instructors are certainly busy outside the school, travelling to a number of events this summer to run seminars and workshops.

Fightcamp is the largest HEMA event in the UK with instructors attending from all over the world.  Held 12th -14th August 2016 in the Midlands, it’s a weekend of learning, competition and camaraderie.

  • Matt will be doing an Introduction to Bolognese Sword & Buckler.
  • Jay will be going Bolognese Sidesword & Cloak
  • Pim will be looking at Cheats of measure in rapier and dagger.

It looks like it will be an excellent weekend and the school is looking to have a big contingent of members there.

2nd April 2016 – Fight Like A Girl Book Launch

2016-04-05T17:04:09+00:00April 5th, 2016|Events|

As well as being an accomplished instructor, Fran is also a published writer.  To celebrate the launch of a new anthology she contributed a story to, Fran and Lizzie went down to Bristol for the day to give a sword fighting demonstration at the book launch.

There was a big crowd and it seemed the demonstration went down well with people who had turned up.  Fran then got to sign books for people.

The anthology, Fight Like A Girl, is now available from good bookshops.  Thanks to Chris for the photos.

Triumphs At Wrestling

2016-03-27T16:17:51+00:00March 27th, 2016|Events, Trophies|

Not wanting to leave anyone out in club honours at York this weekend, there was an unofficial wrestling tournament at Spring Exchange that has just been won by School of the Sword student, Chris.

We’ve been sent this picture of him with his glamorous Easter Egg. We’re told he had to fight off more opponents than any of the other medal winners for that prize.

By all accounts it sounds like everyone is having a great time in York at a very enjoyable event.

Remember: No Reading Training on Monday

2016-03-22T18:13:22+00:00March 26th, 2016|Reading|

Reading students are reminded that this coming Monday is Easter Monday and as a result there is no Reading Training this week.

We’ll be back the following week (4th April 2016) at our new venue at Academy Sport.  We’ll be starting some new training streams so if you’ve missed a few lessons and want to jump back in at the start of a new teaching block, it’ll be a perfect time to do so!
