Godalming Training – 10th August 2022

Tonight at our Godalming chapter, the longsword group joined the tournament prep group for some tournament style judged bouts. Everyone had a turn at fighting and judging and some fine fencing ensued.

School of the Sword Heads To Copenhagen

Lead instructor of our Oxford chapter, Emilia Skirmuntt, will be heading to Copenhagen this month to teach at the International Rapier Seminar.  In her workshop, “Bringing A Rapier To A Bar Fight”, she’ll teach attendees about grappling techniques in rapier systems and how to use the rapier in confined spaces

Godalming Training – 3rd August 2022

Another busy session at Godalming tonight.  The longsword group worked on low guards, while the tournament prep group discussed the use of a ‘corner’ person and held a mini pool. Each fighter fought against the others in the pool and there were some excellent bouts. Everyone won at least one bout and everyone scored points in every bout.

Tonight saw the start of our new beginners course in Oxford where students got their first taste of fighting with longsword.

Tonight our Oxford chapter was learning defences with a sword in scabbard!

Godalming Training – 20th July 2022

Tonight we had three groups: study group, longsword and tournament practice.

In the study group, we are free to practice whatever we fancy drawing from a selection of sources. Tonight it was Cavalcabo, Bartitsu and Domenico Angelos smallsword.

The longsword group worked on cuts following the Meyer square, putting a music stand to good use!

And John introduced members to the rules, practices and roles of a tournament.

Oxford Accepting New Students

Our chapters only take in students a couple of times a year, with some having long backlogs. Our Oxford chapter is now taking registrations for beginners. Starting at the end of July, you’ll begin with Italian longsword.

Our instructors are invited to teach worldwide, so don’t miss this opportunity to learn from some of the best. Places are very limited, so act now as it may be a while before places open in Oxford again.

Reading Training For 18th July Cancelled

Due to the current extreme heat the country is experiencing, this week’s training at Reading is cancelled. It’s difficult not to dehydrate in protective gear at the best of times and with the forecast temperatures due to reach around 40 degrees, conditions in the hall will be far from comfortable. Training will resume as normal next week.
